H G Wells is one of the pioneers of the science fiction genre. This book, recently remade as a movie, tells a terrifying tale of hostile and technologically superior aliens from Mars invading Earth. This books audio version first made headlines when on October 30, 1938, a Mercury theater broadcast (this free recording is not it) had frightened listeners into believing an alien invasion was actually taking place.
